Centre for Integrated Studies

The Centre for Integrated Studies is home to some of Athabasca University's established and emerging multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary and integrated studies graduate programs.

In 2007, the Centre for Integrated Studies evolved out of the Master of Arts – Integrated Studies (MAIS) department. The MAIS Directors and administrative staff members took on the tasks related to providing administrative and student services for three graduate level programs: the Masters of Arts – Integrated Studies, the Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, and the Heritage Resources Management Program (Note: this program has both a graduate and undergraduate component).

Athabasca University's Master of Arts–Integrated Studies (MAIS) degree offers students a unique opportunity to engage in a program of study that spans the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The degree is comprehensive in scope but specific in focus, requiring students to choose at least one specialization from among several streams of inquiry.

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Legislative Drafting program provides an in-depth analysis of the principles underlying legislative drafting in common law jurisdictions and a thorough introduction to sound drafting practice.

Heritage Resource Management involves working with those things of the past — both intangible and tangible — that a society determines are of value and worth preserving.

This CIS Centre page provides you with links to these programs, where you will find comprehensive information about each.

CIS Contact numbers are provided here for students seeking administrative and student service assistance.

Those of you interested in learning more about the scope of interdisciplinary and integrated studies may wish to visit the web pages for the 2008 MAIS Integrated Studies Symposium.
